Borer imprint

This glass flower vase is born from what was once destined to be discarded—wood silently hollowed out by beetles such as the Gemeiner Nagekäfer and Hausbockkäfer, now transformed into a negative mold for molten glass.

In 2021, insects were responsible for 81.4% of the approximately 41.1 million cubic meters of damaged wood in German forests. From this forgotten material, the beetles’ hidden paths and voids are captured and echoed in glass, becoming delicate, unrepeatable patterns shaped by nature’s quiet destruction.

Each vase carries a singular texture, defined by the species of beetle and the contours of the wood—blurring the lines between decay and creation, accident and intention.
